I feel like the news keeps giving us conflicting reports ever other week as to whether or not technology is good for our kids. One week they tell us that toddlers shouldn't use iPads and smart phones, and the next, they're telling us that technology like that can be great learning and teaching tools. So which is it?
One week we're bad parents, and the next, we're awesome. I mean, isn't it every parent's call to decide when they may or may not NEED to use these devices to protect their own sanity?
In our household, Leighton only gets to use the iPad for about 20 minutes before bedtime because I figure that he has his whole life to be addicted to technology. I try to put mostly learning apps on his page, and I do believe that some of the interactive books and learning apps have helped him to learn numbers, shapes, and colors.
I have recently downloaded some kid-friendly apps to my smart phone so that when we go out to a restaurant, and the food doesn't appear immediately, I have something to distract Leighton from yelling "TIME EAT!" while his head spins around and falls off.
Everything in moderation, right? I mean, I was against movies and too much TV when I first became a parent, but in those moments when it's your very sanity versus letting go a little on your parenting standards, it's probably best to give in a little, and bust out the iPad, a smart phone, or a movie, right?
