I'm certainly not suggesting that your sweet, cherub-faced children would have any connection to the amount of alcohol you consume... but actually, I kind of am. In our home, we are far from alcoholics, but there has been a noticeable correlation with the uptick in alcohol consumption and the presence of newborns.
I know of one mother that consumes an entire bottle of wine a night by herself... is the reason her three children, or does she just really like wine? Another mother I know always has at least one glass of wine in the evening when her two children were asleep. Did she consume that much alcohol before she had children? I kind of doubt it.
In the movie Christmas Vacation after his epic Christmas Eve meltdown, Chevy Chase asks his father how he survived their train-wreck holidays, and his dad's answer is, "I had a lot of help from Jack Daniels." Ah yes, good old Jack. I've seen him around a lot lately (and I'm not the Jack drinker, by the way - it burns!).
You know, there may also be another reason for the rise in alcohol consumption on my end... I did go without it for over a year (avoiding it the entire time I was trying to get pregnant)! Besides, when you're out to dinner with two small children, a glass of some sort of spirits can mellow you out and help you enjoy the meal.
There's nothing wrong with alcohol in moderation, and I'm usually not a big drinker because it usually leaves me loopy and with a headache. I just think it's an interesting question to ponder.... so ponder it with a glass of wine!
