Having had two babies around, I have come to notice that noone's eyes can sparkle like a new baby's eyes can. There is just a reflective sheen to them that fades as they get older. Is that sparkle the manifestation of their little eyes absorbing everything around them? Is that sparkle their innocence that can so quickly fade as the reality of life slowly steals it away?
What a shame for such a beautiful thing to be lost... No, I'm not being ambiguous with that last statement... I could be referring to the sparkle OR innocence. Either is a shame to lose.
There's nothing that we as parents can do about keeping our children innocent, in fact, we are probably the ones who take some of that innocence away as our children get older and have to learn from us discipline, self-restraint, sharing, and other hard life lessons. Fragments of innocence can even be lost after one frustration-filled afternoon.
Bringing back that sparkle should be something we as parents strive for on a regular basis. Every heart-felt laugh, every warm embrace, every loving moment can recharge the sparkle in their eyes. So shine on parents, and bring back that fading innocence.
