If you could do anything and get paid for it, would your life look just as it does right now? I'd imagine not. When I first went to college, I though that becoming a successful interior designer would be my dream job - something that I would do for work but that wouldn't feel like work. Unfortunately, since the market was less than favorable to support that position when I graduated, I found myself working as a marketing assistant and now as a freelance graphic designer.
There are days when I do love my job, but after almost 9 years of the same thing, it's not as fun anymore. My current compensatable passions are writing and fishing. Writing is a passion I discovered last year, and yes, I was fortunate to find a company cool enough to compensate me for blogging (Go Au Pair), but chances are that I'll probably never become a professional, sponsored fisherwoman.
Wouldn't it be great to be able to do what you enjoy, your hobbies, and get paid to do it? You've heard the old saying of "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life", but even if you end up doing what you love for a job, after a while, the fun gets taken out of it, and it eventually becomes work.
Thinking about this topic makes me wonder if it's just a grass-is-always-greener scenario that can never be attainable. If we all were able to do what we loved, would we just end up loving something else that's unattainable? Maybe certain hobbies and interests are just best left as that... hobbies. Hobbies cannot be bogged down by deadlines and bosses, and we all need something in our lives that we enjoy, don't you think?
