Are you a morning person or a night person? I'm a morning person all the way. I wake up, wash my face and brush my teeth, then I'm off to work out. My most productive time of the day is from when I wake up to before lunch... I hit the ground running. You could probably say I'm one of those annoying people who is perky in the morning without any caffeine. However, anything you ask me to do after 5 pm could have the distinct possibility of being very screwed up because my brain is no longer functioning at peak capacityr.
My husband, however, is a night person. He would rather work out at 3 pm than first thing in the morning, and he stays up hours after I go to bed doing God knows what. After dinner has settled in our stomachs, that's the time when he wants to start a project or go run an errand. I would rather do such things in the morning; after dinner, I just want to relax. He also gets all goofy and mischievous at night, and his abundance of hyperactive energy annoys me in the evening because I've exasperated all of my energy earlier in the day... hmmm... but I guess that's how he feels when I'm on him first thing in the morning with the litany of tasks I want him to accomplish during the day. How annoying I must seem to him.
The result of our conflicting rhythms is that I want him to want to do things when I want them done, and he's barely awake so he puts them off. I know that opposites attract, and we have a lot of opposites in our relationship: he's likes seafood, I do not; he's a night person, I'm a morning person; he's a piler, I'm a filer; he's a left brain, I'm a right brain. Are these the things that make our marriage work, or are they the things that annoy us about each other on a daily basis?
Which way will our kids go? Will they be more like mommy or more like daddy? How many night walkers and how many day walkers will you find in our house in ten years? How many seafood lovers or haters will there be? And will the left brainers dominate over the right brainers or vice versa? If one of my sons turns out to be a left brained, morning person who likes seafood, will his mate be right brained and a night person who can't stand fish? It will be interesting to find out...
In the meantime, do you find that the saying "opposites attract" is true in your life? If so, how's that working out for you?
