Just last week, the FDA banned the use of Triclosan in antibacterial soaps because they claim that the risks outweigh the benefits. About 40% of soaps contain this ingredient, but the FDA has given companies a year to get it out of their products... that's one more year of exposure of those toxins to you and your family! So what's wrong with the chemical we have all been relying on to keep our families germ-free? The New York Times states that "studies in animals have shown that triclosan and triclocarban can disrupt the normal development of the reproductive system and metabolism, and health experts warn that their effects could be the same in humans" (The New York Times, Sept. 2, 2016). Um, yikes. I know we're all trying to keep our families healthy, but at what cost? We've all become so accustomed to grabbing any soap that claims "antibacterial" that we don't even know what we should and shouldn't be buying with this new FDA ban. What other alternatives are there? For my family, we only use PARIS HONORÉ ORGANIC BODY & HAND WASH - We love it so much t hat there is some by every sink! Why do I trust this product? Well, as COO of PARIS HONORÉ, I know exactly what is in this product: 3 simple, organic and natural ingredients: Proprietary extract of Saponin, Deionized Water (Aqua), Citric acid (natural preservative). Additionally, my children and I suffer from extremely sensitive skin, and this naturally hydrating organic product has worked beautifully even despite the hundreds of hand washes we endure a day! ![]() As for the ingredients, you all know what water is, and citric acid is just a preservative, but what is "Saponin"? It is an extract from the Soap Berry, or Soap nut, more formally known as Sapindus Mukorossi. Studies have found that Soapnuts are a great natural cleaning product that also has an inherent antibacterial quality... not to mention that they come directly sourced from Mother Nature. As a mother myself, I have become very aware of what is in everything because ingredients in food, skin care, soaps, shampoos, sanitizers, etc. have the potential to be harmful to my children, and I take that responsibility very seriously. I mean, there are enough ways for us to screw up our children, but I feel like NOT exposing them to harmful chemicals should be a no-brainer. Yes, I am a bit biased about the PARIS HONORÉ products, but I am always a mother first and foremost... from my family to yours, let's raise healthy, happy children! --------------- Image Credits: www.parishonore.com, soybeeharvest.com
