There is nothing more frustrating around the holiday season when you've finally worked up enough energy and carved out enough time to put up your Christmas tree (or in my case, trees), and you do so only to be slapped in the face with the realization that less than half of the lights have decided to show up for work this year. Curses! (or a slightly more harsh selection of words in my case!) Since I am not one to take on the mess and challenges of a real tree, I have always opted for the fake ones. They are, however, not without their challenges.
This last November when I was the most excited that I have been in years to decorate for the Christmas season, I plugged in my 9-year-old 12' tree to see layers of lights and darkness like an unwelcome layered surprise cake. Surprise!! Now what? I guess that old girl didn't like being manhandled by the movers this past summer. Not only that, but my "don't touch" tree (the realistic tree whose ornaments shall not be touched by hands under the age of 30) had dark blotches equivalent to the missing patches of hair on my balding husband's head. AAAAHHHH!!!!!! Enter scary mommy.
The excitement I had when starting the all-day decorating project ground to a halt and was shoved aside by irritation and noodling about how I could fix it... Um... string other lights in the empty spots? Take the trees down? Burn the house down along with the offending trees and start life anew? But... just my luck, of course the leftover lights I had were half out too. UGH. Maybe I should have given up. But, surrendering isn't in my nature.
We had purchased the Light Keeper Pro many years ago, but I was never more desperate to try it (and by "try it", I mean throwing it at my husband in exasperation and yelling, "FIX IT!"). Aaannnddd... this is why I married an engineer. When I get in these moods... he usually just tries to do what he can to survive... if he can play hero, that's bonus points for him. About an hour later, all of the lights on both trees were back on with a stunning holiday glow. Say whaaaa?!
Most of the time, I'm a total skeptic when it comes to "quick fix" tools, but this one actually works. Don't ask me how, but if I had to explain, I'd say that it was blessed by Santa's magic. Thank goodness for Christmas miracles and for husbands who fear for their safety around psychotic wives!
Friends, if a $25 gadget can save your sanity and time around the holidays, just go for it... it's totally worth it.
