When I told my husband that it was "going to be the summer of dresses", I'm pretty sure he had no idea what I was talking about... probably was just wondering how much it would cost...
For years I have sought after the perfect sundress that was flattering AND comfortable... FINALLY... this season, and the last, have brought some amazing options: A-lines and halter-styles that are a comfortable mom-short length (not too matronly, and not too street cornery).
I'm not sure what it is about sundresses that I love so much, but any way I can extend the sundress season, I'm all over it! Unfortunately, spring in Minnesota doesn't mean it's warm enough for a spaghetti strap (unless, of course, you're that person that wears shorts all winter... and if you're not, you know that person... we all do).
Luckily for we fashionista moms, jean jackets are back in style!
Where did this ensemble's inspiration originate? I saw Mila Kunis in a similar outfit in the movie Bad Moms, and I've been waiting for the weather to warm up so I can start spreading the good fashion word here.
Layers are anyone's best friend because they add so much versatility to a wardrobe, and any mom on a clothing "budget" (I hate that word) can certainly use as many ways to justify new purchases to her significant other...
This look is great for weekday dropoffs, PTC/PTA/PT-whatever meetings, weekend fun, probably just not work. Okay, let's start from the top down...
Earrings, well, I bought these at Express (in the actual store), but I can't find them online. Just go with a large, mixed metal dangle that is lightweight (not one of us needs another stretched out body part)... if it's too heavy, it's not COMFORTABLE, and you won't wear it! Mom's don't need to be worrying about their accessories when they're trying to keep their kids alive and well all day...
Jacket - OMG... I was scared of a jean jacket. Why? Never had one... I don't think. Regardless, I'm up to try any new trend (eventually), and who would be there to judge me as I tried it on in the comfort of my own bedroom? No one... I love shopping online - it's very efficient. I like this jean jacket (link below) because it's a crop top so it can be worn with any length shirt and most styles of sundress.
Dress - I think I bought this sundress in 4 colors... and I plan to wear them a LOT this spring and summer. What I love is the adjustable spaghetti strap, the crisscross bodice with a thoughtful detail of an eye hook closure (for those of us who are afraid of a wardrobe malfunction at a parent-type function), and who doesn't love an A-line skirt?! The only downer... it says "hand wash", but so does a cycle on my washing machine!
Shoes - Shoes can make or break an outfit... and like I've said before, buying versatile statement footwear will never be a bad idea. Yes, these shoes aren't cheap; however, I loved them the minute my foot slipped into them... a nude for versatility, black for elegance, and snakeskin for visual interest... Love at first sight! OH - AND they're - let's all say the magic word together... COMFORTABLE!
Friends, spring is the time to stop and smell the roses and to wear feminine ensembles with confidence and a smile! Add an extra spring to your step with something new!
