Per requests of the fans... my first dedicated mommy fashion blog!
Ever since becoming a mom, I have feared "looking like a mom". I guess I don't even know what that means, but I wanted no part of it. So if you're a mom with a sense of style but also need practicality and comfort, this blog will be the place for you!
This pic shows exactly how I walked out the door to drop off my youngest this morning, and upon arrival, I heard "Cyndi, that shirt looks great on you!" Nothing makes a stress-filled early morning better than a compliment... especially when you make a conscious effort to put together an outfit before stepping out the door. And while my husband would only notice how I looked if I grew a third (insert body part here), a compliment is still a compliment, and I'll take it.
To be quite honest, I've always been afraid of floral prints because for some reason, I thought that they were a "grandma" print and would instantly age me 30 years. However, the great thing about prints, versus the solids I love so much, is that with young kids (and things like doing dishes and ending up with a wet mid-section), they can be very forgiving as far as your shape and little spots that may be the result of kid tears or kid snot (you pick... for me, it depends on the moment!). Floral prints on a flowy fabric like this are also perfect for hiding that bowl of ice cream you had after the kids went to bed... the treat that you swear you can see hanging off your body in the morning!
The distraction of a print can be your friend, AND it's always good to add visual interest to an ensemble.
What I love about this shirt (link below) is that there's a little shoulder-exposing slit in the cap sleeve, and this cut and fabric are great with leggings or skinny jeans. My only complaint, even though I have a ton of shirts like this in my closet, is that they are prone to static cling in the winter with heavy coats... (so carry a dryer sheet in your coat pocket for emergencies!).
Jeans - well, no two pairs of jeans are created equal when it comes to women's bodies. I like the Express stretch jeans that are more like leggings with faux pockets that aren't functional, but anything with a stretch is okay in my book!
Stretch = comfort... look for spandex blends!
Boots - I just can't tell you how much I love these red patent leather boots! I think I ordered them online from DSW many years ago, but I have gotten more compliments on them than I can count... one "cat-call" from a fellow mother at pick up (out her car window, no less)! Statement boots that are comfortable and visually exciting are a MUST for any fashion-forward mom. Pick some out in your signature color, and wear them with confidence... even if that means a catwalk strut down a fluorescent-lit hallway toward a room slowly filling with the aroma of gag-worthy diaper presents!
Regardless of how busy you are, you still have to wear clothes... so just make a few tweaks, and feel comfortable and confident! You're a mom, after all, you've got this! #momfashion
