I bet that every woman reading this article knows a man who uses a Swiss army knife (or pocket knife) more frequently and for more uses than are probably socially acceptable. Any man reading this probably has a pocket knife that he uses for more purposes than he should.
My father is one that is never without his trusty pocket knife. That germy tool usually makes an uninvited guest appearance at every gift-giving holiday when someone can't get into a gift (usually one I wrapped with too much tape). I know he uses that thing all day, and it drives my mom nuts (as I can clearly see on her face as she rolls her eyes at the very sight of it).
My husband has a little tiny (free) Swiss army knife that he keeps in the bathroom and takes with him when he travels. I've seen him using that stupid little metal emery board to file his nails so many times, and I ask him why he can't just use one of the many emery boards I have in every possible grit. They are all merely feet away from his icky pocket knife, but he still prefers the nail-shredding metal file. He says he likes it, and it's "manly." Does one have to have scraggly fingernails to be manly? Really? This from the man who takes more baths than I do, and he's worried about using an emery board? Come on.
I'm convinced that there is some sort of MAN-ual that tells men that they all must have a pocket knife. Men use these things (most of the time without cleaning them) for pretty much everything... including picking ick out of places we women don't want to know about. Then, they draw their handy weapon when it's time to cut into fruit. Um... eew?
I'm just saying, if you have a pocket knife that is more friend than tool, maybe you should run it through the dishwasher now and then (or just wash it with soap and water), and you may be able to avoid a "dirty" look or two from your significant other.
